Summer Event Coordinator

Youth Art Connection (YAC) is seeking an organized, communicative and community-driven individual to work closely with the Salt Yard Sessions Manager and other YAC staff to plan and implement outdoor music and art events, and will assist in planning of fall events. This is a Canada Summer Jobs position and applicants must be between the ages of 15-30(inclusive), and reside in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Start date: Wednesday, July 7, 2021 End date: Tuesday, August 31, 2021

Compensation: $15/hr Hours per week: 35 (Full Time)

Primary Duties Include:

  • Co-lead planning and management of the Salt Yard Sessions project with the Salt Yard Sessions Event Manager.

  • Act as a stage manager during weekly live performances at the Salt Yard on Halifax Waterfront

  • Book and manage artists and performers

  • Manage social media & promotional activities including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter

  • Create and review specific promotional materials using existing Saltyard Sessions templates in Canva, checking for accuracy and correct spelling, logo inclusion, etc.

  • Contribute to partner and funder reports as needed

  • Collect administrative information from artists, volunteers and contractors including invoices and any documents required for tracking and administering the program

  • Be open to conducting interviews and promotional activities to raise awareness about the Saltyard Sessions project

  • Support the documentation of the project (photo, videography, etc)

  • Lead on creative planning, identifying emerging opportunities etc for further development of the Saltyard Sessions, and work with Executive Director to determine feasibility of program extension, expansion or changes

  • Manage logistics, supplies and equipment for events, including delegating tasks to volunteers, staff and requesting assistance as needed from the Salt Yard Manager.

  • Along with the Salt Yard Sessions Event Manager ensure implementation and compliance with COVID-19 protocols and ensure safety of staff, volunteers and the public

  • EMERGEHFX - support in the planning and preparation of the EMERGEHFX festival in the fall of 2021.

  • Plan and deploy one-off events on behalf of YAC when opportunities are identified and when it is agreed with the executive director that time and capacity exist to carry out activities beyond Saltyard Sessions and EMERGEHFX.

  • Carry out other duties as required from time to time.
